
NOBEL PRIZE WINNERS 2021
The Nobel Prize is five separate prizes that,according to Sir Alfred Nobel’s will of 1895, are awarded to those who,during the preceding year,have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind. Nobel Prizes are awarded in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace.while a memorial prize in economic sciences was added in 1968.
NOBEL PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY
German Benjamin List and Scottish-born David MacMillan won the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their development of asymmetric organocatalysis, a “new and ingenious tool for molecule building”.
NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS
The Nobel Prize in Physics 2021 was awarded “for groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex systems” with one half jointly to Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann “for the physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming” and the other half to Giorgio Parisi “for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales.”
NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSIOLOGY OR MEDICINE :
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2021David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian “for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.
NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE :
The Nobel Prize in Literature 2021Abdulrazak Gurnah “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”
NOBEL PRIZE IN PEACE :
Philippine journalist Maria Ressa and Russian Editor Dmitry Muratov have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their “efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace,”
NOBEL PRIZE IN ECONOMIC SCIENCE :
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2021 with one half to David Card “for his empirical contributions to labour economics” and the other half jointly to Joshua Angrist and Guido Imbens “for their methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationship.
