Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee

Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee was born on February 21, 1961 in Mumbal, then Bombay, to Dipak Banerjee and
South Nirmala Banerjee. He did his schooling from South Point High School, Kolkata. After completing B.SC. Hons. degree i in Economics in 1981 from the Presidency College, Kolkata, he took admission to the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi in 1983. He completed his M.A. in Economics from there and then went on to oblain a Ph. D. in Economics at Harvard University in 1988. Abhijit VInayak Banerjee along with Esther Duflo, his wife and Michael Kremer has been in the limelight recently as they have won the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a great poet as well as a freedom fighter. He was the first Education Minister of independent India. He was born on November 11, 1888. He was a journalist by profession. Being an enthusiastic supporter of Gandhiji’s ideas, he protested against the British Raj. Maulana Azad composed poems in Urdu and also wrote many books. Some of his famous books are –India Wins Freedom‘, ‘Ghubar-e-Khatir‘ etc. This great man breathed his last on February 22, 1958. Ever since, his birthday is celebrated as the National Education Day.

Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda was one of the greatest social reformers and spiritual leaders. He was born on January 12, 1863 at Shimla in Kolkata. His real name was Narendranath Dutta. His father was Vishwanath Dutta and his mother was Bhubaneswari Devi. He did his schooling from Metropolitan Institution from where he he passed the Entrance Examination. He graduated from Scottish Church College. He became a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. He dedicated his life for the welfare of humanity. He attended the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893 and gave a historic lecture on the unity of all religions. He set up Ramakrishna Mission, a place for all the helpless and needy people. He is a model of courage and strength. This great man passed away on July 4, 1902. Even after his death ha remains in our heart as an inspiration.
RABINDRANATH TAGORE

One of the celebrated poets of all time, Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7, 1861 at Jorasanko in Kolkata. His father was Maharshi Debendranath Tagore. His mother was Sarada Devi. Unlike others, Tagore was schooled at home. He was brought up under the care of his father and his private tutors. He wasS a man of versatile genius. He wrote hundreds of poems, many famous novels, plays, essays, short stories and innumerable songs. He was a lover of Nature and believed that God exists in Nature only in the form of a supreme spirit. Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for ‘Gitanjali’ Besides these, he was a great painter and educationist. He established Visva Bharati University in ‘Santiniketan’ This great human being passed away on August 7, 1941.
